Yes you read the title correct. The man in this picture had a big target on his head by Sony. His name, George Holtz aka Geohot famed iPhone hacker, unlocker and PlayStation 3 Keymaster, has packed his bags and is somewhere in South America. For those of you who do not know. Geohot as well as many other hackers were upset by Sony’s abrupt removal of OtherOS from Playstation 3’s. So they banded together and worked on a way to get the OtherOS back on to their beloved Playstation 3’s. While toying around with all the code. The root key that would open up the Playstation 3 to run OtherOS, homebrew apps as well as piracy was found and unleashed for the world to see by Geohot and Fail0verflow. With this info out in the wild, it yielded a huge security risk for Sony. Sony who is known for not letting anything go, had its legal team set their sights on Holtz. Geohot was able to raise money to battle the mega company. Today Sony filed that he has not fully cooperated with court orders to hand over the hard drive of his PC and that he lied about having a PSN account. Sony claims that Hotz has now left his home in New Jersey and traveled to South America in order to escape further legal action. Sony also states that they have proof that Geohot made a PSN account and agreed to the terms of the agreement.
“After Magistrate Judge Spero ordered an inspection of Hotz’s devices and ordered Hotz to appear at a deposition in California, SCEA learned that Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them to a third party neutral and that Hotz is now in South America, an excuse for why he will not immediately provide the components of his hard drives as requested by the neutral,” the motion read.
A lot of sites are reporting that he has fled the country to escape the arms of the law. Word in the underground forums are stating that he is just on vacation. We will have more for you as this develops.
