Review: Spiderman Shattered Dimensions

Greetings web heads and welcome to a new thrilling adventure with Spiderman, Spiderman, Spiderman and uh….Spiderman? This is Spiderman Shattered Dimensions, where you will have the experience the lives of 4 different Spider-men and their own realities….I will let that concept plate into your brain and will shall continue this web induced adventure after jump.

So here is the deal, you’re Spiderman (dramatic pause) and you run into Mysterio who is trying to steal an ancient tablet. I mean come on you are Spiderman, you are not going to fall for his stupid tricks. So of course you say some funny lines, kick him around about and right when you are about to finish him off. You accidentally break the tablet he protected himself with causing a weird rift. The good news is that you kicked Mysterio’s butt, the bad news is YOU CAUSED A BIG RIP THROUGH THE DIMENSIONS AND NOW MADAME WEB IS ALL PISSED OFF AT YOU! That is right it was the Amazing Spiderman’s fault and now the other Spidermans have to clean up his mess!  Now the broken tablet has great powers that amplify the user’s abilities, that is why it is very important you and the other Spideys (from the Ultimate’s, Noir, and 2099 universe to get them back).

The game is pretty straight forward and thanks to MW (Madame Web) your abilities have been augmented, which makes Spiderman more POWERFUL THAN EVER BEFORE!!! The spidersenses for example will let you see through objects, which definitely comes in handy looking for those special “spiders” and hidden icons. In each of the worlds, you will learn how to play the different Spiderman’s combat and their many abilities.

In terms of abilities, for a Spiderman game you will have the option of upgrades similar to previous titles. The only problem is that there are four different Spidermans and therefore there are four different sets of upgrades per Spiderman. The more bad guys you beat up, the more essence you can earn to build up the Spidermans which is not that hard, just tediuos.

Since I mentioned combat, shattered dimensions features a nice FPS fight sequence when battling in boss fights, by using the two analog sticks to punch and a dodge attacks to finish off the fight. The combat is hardcore and very easy to master, but I the upgrades seem a bit useless because you can go through enemies not having to use everything you brought. It is interesting to see the different villains in the other dimensions. For example, 2099 Scorpion looks like an alien and Noir Vulture is a cannibal, which makes him creepier than just sucking the youth out of you.

The bonus features are pretty cool with unlockable costumes, figurines, movies, character bios and concept art. The costumes don’t really enhance Spiderman, they just makes him look a bit cooler and gives you a bit of background information of their origin. I particularly favorites are the paper bag head Spiderman and the Human Torch Fantastic Four costumes.

The cons are many and kinda brutal. Being a single player game it is quantity vs. quality and this game glitches a lot. There have been many times where I’ve fallen through the floor. The enemies even have fallen through the floor, which was to my advantage, However still very annoying. The camera is your enemy not your ally in this gamee. Either it gets too close for comfort or goes behind the background at times.

In the four different worlds you have four different voice actors and so far Neil Patrick Harris in “Amazing” and Christopher Daniel Barnes in Noir Universe. The least favorite is 2099 voiced by Dan Gilvezan who did the voice of Spiderman and his amazing friends. It makes you want to be a villain after hearing so many bad jokes and repetitive commentary from Spiderman all the freaking time!

It is time to swing into the final verdict and survey says, it’s a RENTAL! It is an okay game but the boss battles are too fast and even though you are playing as four different Spidermen. It took me 30 minutes to get through 4 bosses. There is a slight challenge trying to end each level with a gold medal. On the plus side, you will get a nice helping of achievements in a short time. It was an interesting concept, but it still needed some fine tuning. I like to give a shout out to Deadpool, man you made the game exciting especially causing those tidal waves! All right gamers I am through here and thanks for stopping by to check out my review; so until next time stay frosty!
