Review: God Of War III

There is a saying, “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, but fool me a third time and I shall UNLEASH A PUNISHMENT UPON YOU AND ANY GOD THAT GETS IN MY PATH!!” Kratos, once the God of War, is stripped from his title and now facing his final battle against all the might of Olympus to bring vengeance upon Zeus. Keep on reading for this review on God Of War III.

Many of you already get the idea that this new installment to the series is a lot more brutal than ever before. This is a first for me, but God of War III actually amazed me with the graphics, in terms of cinematic merging with gameplay. It kept the game flowing by not leaving you hanging with drowned out movies that fill up the game. I favor the fact that they kept everything alive during the gameplay; what would normally happen only in cut scenes is happening in real time while you’re fighting or heading towards your goal. The best example is seeing Hades drop down off the mountain and taking down a titan while you’re crossing an obstacle. However, a game being pretty does not do it justice; so we now go into the combat of the game.

The brutal talent of Kratos is amplified a thousand fold when taking out many enemies and laughing as the blood flows all over your battle ground. Listen, any game that gives you a first person view of a person getting their butt kicked by you is genius. I would say they definitely fine tuned the combat system. Kratos definitely flows well and you’re able to dodge a lot better; even on the hardest difficulties you can become the victor. The weapons are one of the interesting features I admire in the game. It is a choice between long range attacks vs. short range, however in God of War each weapon seems to adapt to both. The blades of exile would be considered a short range weapon but they quickly turn into whipping blades of death.

Do not expect this game to be a long adventure. If played on a normal setting you can beat it in under 10 hours, but if you intend to do that you might miss out on a lot of extra items. Either way you will get a challenge even in normal mode, but yours truly is currently tackling this in “Titan” mode and for your viewing pleasure I have uploaded a video of my fight with Hades. I just want to point this out that I lost so I would not give up too much but most of you might find strategy in my mistakes, so please enjoy.

I have to admit when Hades first appeared I screamed like Chris Tucker in the Fifth Element. The added replay value and the challenge of different levels, plus the talk of pvp DLC content coming I would definitely have to say this is a BUY. Great graphics, great story, excellent battles and it is Rated M for mature audiences. Now I don’t know about you but M rated is okay by me. The only problem I had happen was a glitch in the game where I fell into nothing first in the Posiden fight and second before going into a cave to meet Hephaestus.

Thank you for reading this review of God of War III which is out now for the Playstation 3 and as always stay frosty gamers.
