For those of you familiar with Twitch.TV (we have a page ourselves) this news might be welcomes, as Twitch has released an app for the XBOX 360 available today. Now I say “might” with quotation marks because this new app comes with some stipulations. The app features the top 300 live channels (i.e. a lot of WoW and LoL), no search function for specific streams or the ability to watch your ‘Favorite’ channels if you have a Twitch account. Streams, like our faves Dan’s Gaming or The Great GQ, will have no problem with with gaining viewers with this feature but smaller streams will miss out on the opportunity to get exposed to a new audience. Also not surprising you must have a Gold account to use the app.
It also looks like you just watch the stream, but have no ability to chat like you would on your computer on the actual Twitch site. I’m hopeful that this app will have expanded functionality and will probably be successful but it’s a little disappointing to see it launch with such limited functionality. Then again I can see Twitch not wanting to cannibalize their website traffic, so this app could be great for those that just like to watch and not interact (big up to the lurkers). The Twitch TV app is available now.
