Review: Happy Wars

Happy Wars, developed by Toylogic, is the first free to play (requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription) action tower defense game, think Fat Princess with towers.  It was a lot of fun to finally get to play it especially during Extra Life.  However, when we were playing there were issues with the mutliplayer servers so it was a bit hard to get into a game.

Loves:

  • The character design – the characters are very herp derp (but still very cute)
  • The artwork – it was very cartoony
  • Getting into a game with people that have similar Theme Tags (For example, if I have a theme tag of CAT, I can get into a game much easier with people that have the same theme tag)
  • The roulette game you can play by spending coins gained in the game to get more items (I got a Pig Shield)

Hates:

  • Confusing gameplay – I must have played the same damn level over and over without getting a new map or anything – maybe it was a glitch but I didn’t get new maps
  • Pay per credits for Happy Tickets – I don’t wanna pay real money to get things in the game (I’m sure some don’t mind this but I do) – but kudos for the being one of the first games to have that pay for credit model
  • One hit kills – I got bopped by some Mage like every time
  • No offline co-op mode – I would have loved to play with my friends offline against the computer

Overall, it was a fun game and I could see myself playing it for awhile.  Pick it up today!
