PAX EAST 2011: L.A. Noire

This game is just breathe taking, to say the least.  If you don’t know what L.A. Noire is about its set in the Los Angeles area in the 40’s.  You play as a detective Cole Phelps played by Aaron Staton, whom is quite cute if I do say so myself.  You might know Aaron from Mad Men where he plays Ken Cosgrove.  As Detective Phelps you set out to figure out cases that are occurring in L.A.  It is quite amazing looking especially since Rockstar rebuilt L.A in the 40’s.  It is going to be something great to come out of Rockstar’s studios.  Especially the technology that they used to make the game.  It’s called MotionScan, that enables Rockstar to capture and scan every nuance of a real actor’s facial performances and put them right into the game itself. It provides a level of realism, detail, performance and emotion never seen before in a videogame, and brings them to life in a totally new way. This goes beyond the limited grid of data points delivered by traditional motion capture – these are the actual performances themselves, scanned and placed onto our digital characters. It’s very fancy stuff. Check out the screens after the jump.  Videos coming soon too.
