Review: Tron Evolution

Greetings programs, let’s get down to business! The Grid is being corrupted pretty fast and it is up to you to save the interface from total deletion. There is something strange going on and Flynn needs your assistance program to stop the menace. I hope you are up for the task and not just going to run behind your firewall, welcome to Disney’s Tron Evolution. The question is, “Will it live up to its hype or just De-Rez into out dated dos?” Scanning in after jump…

As some of you might not know, “Tron Evolution” is a prequel to the upcoming movie “Tron Legacy’ so instead of being a spoiler it feels up some gaps. The game starts off with Flynn recording a personal log talking about the situations in the Grid. Apparently he was not expecting the system to evolve in a such a way, the programs are becoming more like people, more self-aware. It is at that time that Flynn has discovered “Isomorphic Algorithms” or “Iso’s” that just appeared out of nowhere; which apparently is freaking him out since he didn’t create them. To me it sounds like his own program is growing up on his own and Daddy Flynn is becoming obsolete. I would say things got a bit weird with his systems admin Clue, who apparently is like “Screw You Dad, I do things my way from now on!” This is where you, “Anon” steps in and try to bring back order to this evolved world and boy your disc is going to do a lot of spinning baby!

The first thing you have to do is get to know what you are capable of and thanks to fellow program named “Quorra” who is here to give you your tutorial’s to survive. The first thing you learn is the free running portion and there is a lot of it around in this world which is your big advantage. I know, I know some of you might be saying “Q, your disc is your advantage!” With that naive idea you will be de-rezed real quick. If you utilize your movements, you can combine some nasty combos. The fight mechanics use a mixture of Parkour and Capoeira and add your disc weapon with some nice upgrades. For example, there are heavy explosions upgrades. It is a nice fast pace combat with parries and counters since none of the enemies wait to take turns, they will attack at once. I suggest learn your surroundings, because the health re-generators on the walls and the energy disc recharge stations can only be used with your Parkour movements.

There is vehicular combat as well; where even on the light cycles you can use your disc to stop enemies and not only with your light trails which you use when on  your bike. However you will have to have some battles against vehicles while on foot which are like David and Goliath battles, especially against a light tank.

Now we go beyond the grid into what some might wonder about and yes there is multi-player. To be honest, you are in the Tron universe where games where the main theme in the 80’s. If you expected them not to add PVP (player vs. player) than you are mistaken. However you will need to upgrade your character in single player which is then transferred to the multiplayer world. The more experience points you gain which will be in Megabytes; the more powerful your “Anon” character will be. There will be four different game modes, two dealing with Light Disc combat and two with light cycles and light tanks. There’s a 10 players max that will be involved in multiplayer. All right lets break this area down….10 people, Parkour/Capoeira combat plus light disc….oh that is what I call District B-13 in the Tron world. (You don’t know the movie, look it up and get educated!)

I am sorry I got to do this but it is that time to throw some cons in the mix. If you ever played Prince of Persia, than you know what to expect with the free running and most of the cons will deal with human error. I am going to keep it as real with you instead of fishing for bad things like most reviewers do, its good as good as it gets. Do not misunderstand, I was trying to look for many cons besides my own mistakes.

It is time to close and the verdict is “BUY”, all right before you start hissing and booing. Tron needed this upgrade and it works really well, new comers of Tron will enjoy the visuals and great voice work with amazing characters. The replay value is added with the ten player multiplayer with new style fighting mechanics. I have to give Disney kudos for not taking out the fun/challenge in games. Tron Evolution will drop December 7th and coming out for all platforms, so don’t say you can’t obtain this game! All right I am going to power down and leave you programs to game, stay frosty!
