Review: Transformers War For Cybertron 4

How many of you know what a civil war is? Well if you follow Transformers, there is a war going on to see who will rule over all of Cybertron. A war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, and it is up to you to decide who shall win, since there can only be one victor. Welcome to our review of Transformers War for Cybertron.

Transforming right after jump…

The Autobots and Decepticons are at war with one another for control over Cybertron. It is up to you to decide which side to fight for. There are 10 chapters in total, I know that it doesn’t sound like a lot but with each chapter being about 2-3 hours gameplay. In each campaign, you have two other A.I characters that will tag along to help you out. They are somewhat intelligent.

The great thing about Transformers is the custom classes. When you first start off in the campaign, you will notice that the three characters will have certain specifics. Depending on the chapter, you can go through it with what they give you or you have the option to choose a different class (leader, solider, scientist or scout). The “Leader” class is a balanced character which will have the ability of “Shield and War” cry which beef’s up your damage. The “Scientist” class will have a sentry gun and a healing ray. The “Scout” class is what I call the ninja class with cloaking ability and dash.  Last but not least the “Soldier” class is the straight up brute with a whirlwind attack and hovering option. I just gave you the basics of each class but you will be able to swap out different abilities as you progress along, but that’s only in multi-player mode.

The multiplayer mode to be honest isn’t the best, it feels like the developers focused more on the campaign mode than on mulitplayer. If you can get into a match and not get booted, you will have the best time of your life. The modes are pretty simple with “Team Deathmatch”, “Deathmatch”, “Conquest” where you attempt to conquer 3 different areas, “Code of Power” a form of capture the flag, “Countdown to Extinction” plant the bomb, and “Power Struggle” same as “Conquest” but you are controlling one area instead of three. The other multiplayer game is “Escalation” which is similar to marathon mode where you play until you die. The idea is team based combat, with each kill gives you money to spend on items or opening areas that give you more powerful weapons. To win you have to balance out your team and definitely help each other out. If your partner is down you can revive them similar to the campaign. When you die it switches you over to Decepticons and you start over, I personally dislike that ’cause it would be nice to start off where you last left off and not completely switch over to the other side.

The cons and there are many. The only bad part of the game is the multi-player area; it is glitchy before you even get into a game and that is sad. It is not friendly when you try to get your own crew on the same team, which sometimes if you lucky have your friends you invited or many times they randomize it. The customization is only good when changing abilities and weapons. In the case of customizing your character it is limited and I mean if you change the Autobot side; you are limited to a certain number of them in each class. In leader you can choose between Ironhide, Ratchet and Optimus. In the Decepticon side you only have Soundwave? Yes apparently Megatron is not a leader because they put him in the soldier class. The color schemes are horrible; they keep light colors for Autobots and dark colors for Decepticons which are very limited to choices. It also would seem that most players are on mute or are in deep concentration because you can forget about communication with your fellow gamers in this game 90% of the time. I know that does not sound bad to many of you but wow I never heard such silence in a shooter, felt like I was in a library. Last thing, is the voices in Conquest, hearing Megatron repeat things over and over “We lost A, They’re taking over B, We have C!” It is just really nerve racking. If you are lucky and get your own group of friends then multiplayer is great; also even better if you don’t lose connection with the host.

It was a hard decision to make after all the hours playing, but since I am going by that I would have to say the game is a BUY, now hear me out even though the multiplayer needs work it is still a good game. It caters to the fan world of Transformer lovers and it is the best damn Transformers game out there especially since it follows the real story of their war. If you get into an online match it is fun even if people are not talking much, you will still get a good game going especially when you know how to fight with your character. The replay value is vast especially when you unlock “Prime Mode” by maxing out each character class to level 25. This game also helps out you achievement/trophy loving gamers because they are easy to obtain.

It is time for me to transform and roll out gamers I hope you enjoyed this review and please check out the other post right here on bifuteki.com. As always stay frosty gamers!

You just asked two questions. Are you asking me if you are doing something right and if I have a problem with it? Answer is yes for the first and no on the second.
