Review: Crackdown 2

All right Agents, Pacific City is in danger and we only have but a few brave clones to stop the threat from getting worse. If you have the guts to take on “Cell” gang members that have over run the city and in the late evenings Mutations that storm the streets attacking all in their path; then you are ready for Crackdown 2. All right Agents grab your weapons and get ready for this review!

For all the new comers, we shall give you a quick synopsis of the situation. The new Pacific City has become a peaceful place with some questionable methods that brought peace to the people due to the Agencies interference with the gangs, however many suspect that it was the Agency all along that gave the gangs power only to have the citizens to rely on the man power of the super clones to end the crime once and for all. The good news is the plan worked; the bad news is….the plan worked. The Agency became the supreme power that policed all over Pacific City, until a new threat came in the form of an angry scientist with vengeance on the brain. The new freak outbreak cause by Catalina Thorne and the help of the new revolution group called “Cell” now have Pacific City at its grip. It is up to you now Agent to stop her and bring back peace for good.

Time to suit up and head out to dominate the city! The game is not that much different from the first title; you still chase down orbs and upgrade your character in any order possible. The shooting mechanics feel the same but you can’t lock on to targets to beat them down like the first game which is a bummer. The new weapon upgrades are nice, my personal favorite is the UV Gun, Homing rocket launcher, and rubber ducky sticky grenade combination. That is right you can obtain a rubber duck sticky grenade which has the best blast radius in the game. Since the Agency keep is gone you have to taking over tactical points to drop off vehicles and weapons to collect, yes it is very weird but makes it handier to have them around the city than driving to the keep all the time. I say this because before you can only go to weapon drops now you have vehicle and weapon points scattered throughout Pacific City.

In the upgrades area; it does seem a little bit less than before where you had more agents and the upgrades changed certain agency vehicles. The new upgrade system will give you vehicles has you obtain different levels, but I personally enjoyed the agency vehicles upgrading themselves from a regular super-car to a bat-mobile like car with mounted guns on each side. This upgrade system unlocks new things for all areas with weapons and of course of your strength and agility. The strength as it upgrades will give you a supercharged ground pound that illuminates your fist red. The Agility as it upgrades not only gives you the ability to jump higher but you will unlock the wing suit; which will give you the ability to fly across the city with the right height of course.

In my opinion I would say upgrading the Agent is a lot easier in this version especially when they send freaks out at night to just run them down in any form with all of your abilities. The freaks cannot sustain themselves in daylight, so it is a survivor’s course through the evenings when having to deal with them; but a lot of fun. In terms of fun the multi-player is a nice addition, even though the campaign gives you 4 player co-op; you can jump over to matches with up to 16 players at a time with online leader boards of course.

The only cons are that it is pretty much the same game with minor upgrades in certain areas and at the same point they took things away. The features they fail in are small but are somewhat missed, vehicle leveling up was a nice feature and of course being able to lock on enemies with melee attacks was good. To be honest even though it is the same game does not mean that is wrong. The game has the fun factor that most video games have been lacking. The idea behind crackdown 2 is to have gamers enjoy the factors of having super powers in an open world taking on all enemies.

The time has finally come and my verdict is BUY. The game has massive replay value and gives players that fun factor which keeps you playing for hours with all the things you are capable of doing. The renegade orb chases are very fun; plus the addition of having your team mates with you while tracking down the enemy is a great factor for a game like this. All right Agents Crackdown 2 is out now for the Xbox 360 and ready for you to deploy and take back Pacific City once again, this is Quan signing off.
