Review: Little League World Series 2010

Little League World Series Baseball 2010, the official video game of the summer tournament that puts the worlds best Little League baseball teams. While the game has a Wii like graphical look to it. The game has some issues with camera placement as well as pitching. I must stress that this game is not on the simulation level of MLB The Show 10 with Little League teams. Its a bit more like Mario Baseball with some powerups.

What I liked was the anime style of the games. The kids in the game had all the typical anime style hair cuts, facial expressions as well as celebrations. While playing I felt I was holding the wrong controller because the game feels as if it was a Wii title. The fun of the game is there as kids in the game show expression after making a big play, like catching a line drive, or striking out a series of batters. Environment wise, its all cheery, Its always sunny, the fans are always smiling and cheering. The sound of the aluminum bat hitting the ball is there, I believe I heard birds chirping in the background.

Some other things I liked about the game is the minigames called “Skill Challenge”. There are 6 “Skill Challenges” in all. Home Run Tourney, where you try to get theĀ  most home runs with a set amount of pitches. You can also gain bonus points by hitting consecutive home runs as well as popping the floating balloons. Pitching Darts, where you throw the ball at a dart board in te shape of a pitchbox. There are three different types of game play for this challenge: Count Up, 01 Game and Round the Clock. Batting Frenzy, where you hit the ball to collect squares and use special balls to steal squares. Pitching Bowling, Bowl with a baseball. Around the Horn, this is kinda

like Simon. Its a memory game where the CPU adds a new pitch after sequence when you succeed. Dunk Dugout is much like the carnival game where you try to dunk the mascot into the tank of water, by pitching the ball. Also like to add that while playing these games as well as the regular game you can gain “power up” cards that when played effects your players as well as having negative effects to your opponent.

While the arcade gameplay goes with the games environment. The game lacks online multiplayer. You can play others locally, up to 4 players, but you can not play online. While the game seems to be geared to kids between the ages of 8-13. It does not have that lasting “fun-factor”. Things like the camera angles that track the ball more causes problem with fielding. If you have a kid between the ages 6-12 then this would be a game to keep them busy during the summer.
