This Saturday: Recycle Your eWaste at Tekserve

Safely and properly recycle your old electronics at our eWaste Recycling Drive, hosted with the Lower East Side Ecology Center. Bring computers, monitors, fax machines, copiers, CD/DVD/VCR players, stereo equipment, televisions, cell phones, and other unwanted electronics to Tekserve on Saturday, January 16th to be safely recycled. Anyone bringing electronics to be recycled can enter for a chance to win an Apple MacBook Air. Plus, all participants in the event will receive a $25 coupon, good towards any Mac or iPod (excluding iPod shuffle) from Tekserve, until February 15th, 2010.

Sponsored collection events like these are one of the best ways for New Yorkers to properly dispose of their old electronic gear and gadgets, which contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium, and mercury. These events are especially important for NYC since both Build It Green’s and the City’s eWaste drop-off program were suspended several years ago.

Note: Unfortunately, we cannot accept home appliances, such as microwaves, refrigerators, and air conditioners. No commercial or bulk drop-offs.

I really want a netbook and this might just be the one I get. It doesn’t surprise me when I see this kind of collab, I figured it was coming with all the other laptops/devices with celebrity/clothing branding.  Of course its a Japan only exclusive but if I can get it imported I will.  Its expected to drop next year some time, with Japanese OS on it, I assume it shouldn’t be too bad to convert to English OS.  But still very excited about this.

Starting today you can drop your current ISP’s DNS service and use Googles DNS service for faster browsing. DNS servers are, in many respects, the backbone of the Internet. DNS allows you to type a domain name like www.bifuteki.com  into a browser instead of a machine-readable IP number. Google argues that it wants to give consumers an alternative to their ISPs’ DNS services in order to make the Internet “faster, safer and more reliable.”
