Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise Pt One

I have to say that I fell in love with the Avatar series one long weekend, Nickelodeon had a marathon on and I pretty much got hooked. I always wished that they would have finished the series a little better, there were so many unanswered questions. So I was super excited that Dark Horse was going to be releasing a series of books that are after the original series. It’s a shame that the original creators didn’t make this series, however they were closely involved. This series is written by Gene Luen Yang, author of the National Book Award-nominated American Born Chinese, Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise Part 1 marks the continuation of Airbender and the link to its upcoming sequel, Legend of Korra!I got the chance to read the first part of the book, I have to say that it was pretty good. I don’t know if I really cared for some parts of it, but the main story line is geared around the restructuring of the nations and trying to restore balance. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes!

Avatar: The Last Airbender—The Promise Part 1 is a must-have for any Airbender fan! This is the latest release in an ongoing partnership between Nickelodeon and Dark Horse to bring you the very best in Airbender books.

Polaroid and Impossible announce the opening of INSTANT REVOLUTION, the first in an upcoming series of artistic collaborations throughout 2012 celebrating the launch of the Polaroid Classic line, a new product line that celebrates Polaroid’s rich 75-year legacy. Featuring photos captured with the last original Polaroid Spectra film production run from 2008, one of the first products introduced as part of the Polaroid Classic line, five of the world’s most dynamic and contemporary artists contributed to INSTANT REVOLUTION: Gary Baseman, James Franco, Maripol, Mary Ellen Mark and Jennifer Juniper Stratford.

For more than 60 years, the instant image has been a revolutionary aspect of how artists create, consider and define analog photography. The five artists featured in INSTANT REVOLUTION all take different approaches to illustrating their relationship with analog photography.

Gary Baseman: “I wanted to use the camera the way I originally used such a device in the 1970s and 80s…to capture an immediate memory. My art is about discovering one’s ‘True Self,’ and Polaroid cameras have been an important tool in assisting in this truth-finding and free expression.”

Rabid, Wild & Docile: A collection of bear inspired artwork @ MPH

myplasticheart is excited to announce our next show opening on February 24 – Rabid, Wild & Docile: A collection of bear inspired artwork. Curated by Jessica George (aka Team Sweet), this exhibit features an impressive lineup of 18 artists and their bear creations. You’ve seen these characters popping up in the pop-pluralism and low-brow movements but whether it be a panda, a grizzly or a polar bear, this animal has been gracing artists’ brains and finding its way onto canvases, stickers, and 3D figures for awhile now. It’s time to bring some of the greatest bear characters together in one room! Opening reception will take place on Friday February 24th from 6-9pm. Select artists will be in attendance and refreshments will be served.

“F*ck, have you had the dream where you ARE this guy?!? And then some kind of happy accident happens, and as you’re in the middle of this glorious car crash you stop to realize that there is actually no such thing as an accident, and no chance encounters, and that everything has a direct purpose? [...] then I get up and see my picture on the cover of the New York Times and I find out that I’m the most highest paid decorator alive.”
