God of War: Ascension Trailer

By Zeus’ beard! A new God of War game is coming out for the PlayStation 3, not that it’s a big surprise. There were rumors of this game a few months ago but now we have an official announcement accompanied by a sexy trailer. There isn’t any gameplay in this trailer, but there are some cool effects with blood which is Kratos’ favorite medium to paint the walls of Olympus with. The trailer suggests that this game will take place during the time when Kratos was still mortal and hadn’t betrayed Ares. Not much else was revealed but more info on the game is going to be announced on April 30th, but until then drool over this trailer.

PAX East 2012: Mortal Kombat (PS Vita)

We got to play the Vita version of MK, let’s just say that its not a straight port, which is what I thought it was going to be.  NetheRealms has added a bunch of cool features for the Vita version, like a whole bunch of new Bonus Challenge Tower features, and some really cool backgrounds.  I got to mess with the Bonus Challenge Tower stuff, I’m not Reo or CD Jr. but I thought that I would have been able to do them but I was sadly mistaken.  They were pretty hard, especially the fight against Barack where you have to wipe the blood from your screen while you play!  If you have a Vita you should consider getting MK for it cause its pretty fun.  Not to mention there is a pretty cool easter egg in the game!

PAX East 2012: Guacamelee

Alexis found out about this game and kept going on and on about it, so we checked it out.  All I knew was that it was about Luchadoras, but I found out there was a lot more to the game then just Mexican wrestlers.  Guacamelee is a 2D “metroid-vania” side scroller fighter that alows you to play 1 player or 2 player co-op.

The game features a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling through alternate dimensions including “The World of the Dead” and “The World of Nightmares” on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.

This game was tons of fun especially when trying to get through the levels with a partner using the dimension switching feature, which essentially allows the player to open up new pathways or make new platforms that are only visible in the “dead world”. You really have to coordinate with your co-op partner and time the dimension switching just right so that you don’t kill each other. I predict tons of cussing when playing this game with Alexis! This is definitely a game to look out for. Check out the trailer and some images of the game in the gallery below.

PAX East 2012: Lollipop Chainsaw

From the showing of the very first trailer that was released for Lollipop Chainsaw I just new this game would be a treat to play. I got to finally got a chance to play a little bit of the game and I can confirm that the game plays just as crazy as it looks. It also helped that I got to play the game inside of a school bus that looked like it was pimped out in Hell.

I played as the main character, Juliet Starling, who is a cheerleader at her high school San Romero High (a nod to the director of the ‘Living Dead’ series, George Romero). A zombie outbreak has taken over her school so she must use her cheer-leading skills in conjunction with her chainsaw and take out the zombie hordes. The stage I played took place in the hallways of her high school, I confronted plenty of undead who were either trying to eat me or the other survivors that were still around. The gameplay was similar to that of ‘Devil May Cry’ or ‘Bayonetta’, using outrageous acrobatics in combination with weapons to take out zombies. Pulling off special combos, gave me lots of rainbows and hearts that burst from the enemies as they expired. The gore in the game is very cartoony but some of the language does run a bit blue, but it’s amusing. There are breaks in the usual fighting mechanics when you take your boyfriend’s decapitated head (which Juliet removed after he was bitten by zombies to keep him alive with some kind of dark cheer-leading magic) and place it on certain headless bodies that glowed blue. When his head is placed on the headless bodies, he is able to remove obstacles blocking Juliet’s path. I’m not sure if he could be used to fight enemies as well, but I know that he can only use the body for a limited amount of time. Besides sawing zombies into pieces with her chainsaw, Juliet can also turn the chainsaw into a giant gun and blast away at baddies. I didn’t get to play very long and I also didn’t get to appreciate the soundtrack, which is done by Akira Yamaoka, since there were no headphones provided but the game was still pretty fun.

I took some shots outside and inside of the school bus where I demoed the game on the show floor and we also got some screenshots and gameplay footage in our gallery below.  Look for Lollipop Chainsaw to hit stores June 12th in North America.

Form A Crew In Max Payne 3 Multiplayer

I love Rockstar Games! They just know how to make an awesome feature in one game and improve upon them in the next game. I can’t to try run with my Crew all over Brazil!

A feature debuting in Max Payne 3 and carrying over to Grand Theft Auto V and future appropriate titles,Crews go beyond traditional online clans by allowing players to join large public Crews or simply create a private Crew that members can customize. In this way, Crews help players keep the fight alive from match to match – and even across titles – through the Rockstar Games Social Club, which will keep track of Crew stats, including Feuds

…In multiplayer games we have a feature called Vendettas – if someone kills you twice, you can initiate a vendetta against them, which lets everyone know that you’re out to get that person. For you, a special X marks their blip when they’re visible to you on the map. If you take that person down, you get extra XP. If they survive your vendetta though, they get that XP.

Crew Feuds are essentially Crew Vendettas: impromptu skirmishes between crews that can spring up in multiplayer matches that quickly spawn a first-to-10-kills battle. You can be playing any team-based game with a completely new set of players, but if you spot two or more members of a crew you’re feuding with on the opposite team, any kills you get against them will count to the overall feud so rivalries will spring up automatically – and when they do, you’ll be notified and the grudge will come to the forefront of the game.

1st Impressions: Silent Hill Downpour (PS3)

It’s no secret that the Silent Hill series has lost a bit of it’s luster in the 10+ years since it’s initial release. While the last two big console releases, Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, took steps to revitalize, revamp, and reinvigorate the series they both had aspects that left more to be desired. In comes Vatra’s entry into the cherished series with Silent Hill: Downpour. While I’m not going into a full blown review of the game I did feel compelled to voice some of my thoughts about the game.

I just love how a little creativity can turn these favelas in Brazil into an environmental piece of art. Check out more pics of how artist Boamistura made these words “float” in the air.
